PSF reviews Strategic Plan, Aligns it with EDPRS

Between 2nd and 4th February 2009, PSF held a management retreat in Rebero, the outskirts of Kigali city to review its four-year (2007-2010) strategic plan and align it with the national socioeconomic development strategy; Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRS). This exercise was led by the PSF Chief Executive Officer Mr. Emmanuel Hategeka together with his deputy Mrs. Prisca Mujyawayezu and a number of consultants.

The 2007-2010 strategic plan was launched in June 2007; way before EDPRS, and has never been reviewed since. The strategy hinged on four pillars; promoting entrepreneurship development and business growth, building private sector capacity, effective private sector advocacy, supporting active involvement in regional and international trade, developing quality member services and enhanced communications. It has since become evident that the national strategy (EDPRS) hinges so much on private sector development. Thus PSF decided to re-align her strategy such that it conforms to the national economic development agenda. This three day intensive exercise saw the federation mission and vision improved as below;

Vision:
 To be an effective self sustaining institution supporting strong private sector-wide performance.

Mission:
 To represent the interests of the private sector, while providing innovative services for growth and professionalism of member enterprises towards sustainable private sector led development. In a related development, the PSF directors, managers and consultants with concerted efforts came up with a 5-year PSF strategic plan and budget, from which they finally extrapolated the 2009 action plan and budget which were approved by the PSF BOD the following week. However, the challenge ahead of PSF is finding enough financial resources, in good time, to implement the strategic plan. During the retreat, staff also came up with ways of improving the revenue generating sources of PSF and a couple of new other innovative sources.
